Conservation Action Plans
CNHP has authored and or/co-authored Conservation Action Plans (CAPs) that help resource managers define characteristics of healthy ecosystems and species populations, rank scope and severity of threats, and identify actions that can be taken to improve the status of resources we care about. We have developed a suite of CAPs to identify specific conservation strategies for high quality occurrences of rare plant species found in Priority Action Areas identified by the Colorado Rare Plant Conservation Initiative. In collaboration with Natural Heritage New Mexico, we facilitated a CAP process with local stakeholders in the Middle Rio Grande to guide conservation of Albuquerque’s cottonwood bosque, as well as the myriad species that call the bosque home. Our Lowry Range CAP, developed in conjunction with field inventory, assists the Colorado State Land Board in understanding how natural heritage values of the site can be conserved in the context of their fiduciary mandate.
