Service Learning
CNHP is a service learning partner with the capstone class for seniors majoring in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability at Colorado State University. We have engaged up to twenty students a year from this class who complete projects that include research, outreach, report writing and presentations. Our students have gone in the field with CNHP staff at Pueblo Chemical Depot, Upper South Platte River, Coyote Ridge Open Space and other locations under study by CNHP scientists. They have also developed ArcGIS Story Maps that help explain conservation issues by integrating maps, legends, text, photos and video. Story Maps offer a novel way of communicating insights on these complex issues that can engage a wide range of audiences. We feature a number of these great communication pieces below. These students make real contributions to CNHP’s mission and help us achieve work we would be unable to do otherwise, while providing students great experience for their own professional development.
