\njoint collaboration with several other institutes, the Colorado Natural
\nHeritage Program was awarded a multi-year project from the North Central Climate Science Center (part of U.S. Geological Survey<\/a>): \u201cNatural Resource
\nManagement Decision-Making under Climate Uncertainty: Building
\nSocial-Ecological Resilience in Southwestern Colorado.\u201d  Ren\u00e9e Rondeau, Ecologist and Conservation
\nPlanner with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program is the CSU Principal
\nInvestigator and will be working closely with Jeffrey Morrisette and Dennis
\nOjima (North Central Climate Science Center), as well as University of Montana<\/a>,
\nThe Nature Conservancy<\/a>, Mountain Studies Institute<\/a> and USGS-Fort Collins<\/a> over
\nthe next few years to facilitate climate change adaptation that contributes to
\nsocial-ecological resilience, ecosystem\/species conservation, and sustainable
\nhuman communities in Southwestern Colorado while focusing on the Gunnison Basin
\nand the San Juan Mountains.  <\/div>\n

\nThe group
\nwill develop a set of actionable and prioritized social\/ecological adaptation
\nstrategies for vulnerable ecosystems and species based on best available
\nscience.<\/span>  <\/span>These adaptation strategies
\nwill incorporate the latest in climate science and must be useful and
\nmeaningful to natural resource managers and other stakeholders.<\/span>  <\/span>The Gunnison and San Juan Basins ownership
\nand economies revolve around ranches and private industry that relies on
\nnatural resources, US Forest Service, US National Parks, Bureau of Land
\nManagement, and Tribal Lands, and will be integral in the success of this
\nproject.<\/span>  <\/span>The frameworks that are
\ndeveloped for this project should be applicable to other western landscapes and
\nwill help guide communities in adapting to changes associated with a changing
\nclimate.<\/span>  <\/span><\/div>\n
