Species Profile
In addition to cave use, rock crevices are known to be used as roosts by this species in the western U.S. (Bogan et al. 2003). M. lucifugus is also likely to be found roosting in anthropogenic structures and tree snags in CO (Fitzgerald 1994). Because of its broad use of many roosting structures and often high tolerance for anthropogenic activity this species is probably at minimal risk from disturbance to rock crevices and cavities. However, premature arrousal from the torpid state, as with any species, could lead to depleted fat reserves and subsequent starvation.
