Species Profile
Surface disturbances could affect this species when using caves by disrupting potential swarming behavior (Navo et al. 2002). In addition to caves, rock crevices are known to be used by this species in the western U.S. (Bogan et al. 2003; O'Shea et al. submitted). M. lucifugus is also likely to be found roosting in anthropogenic structures and tree snags in CO (Fitzgerald 1994). Because of its diverse use among many roosting structures and its tolerance for some disturbance this species is likely at minimal risk from sporadic disruptions to caves over its broad range.
