Species Profile
Because large numbers potentially roost in urban areas and because TABR are well known to forage in agricultural areas, there is potential for larger risk. Cross-placental transfer of pesticides has been shown to occur in TABR (Thies and McBee 1994). We know that the colony at the Orient Mine in CO has low levels of pesticide contamination (Freeman and Wunder 1988) and iIt is well documented that organochlorine pesticide residues accumulate in body tissues of insectivorous bats (Clark 1981, Bennet and Thies 2007, Geluso et al 1976).
