Neubaum et al. (2006) found these bats hibernating in rock crevices and based on the location of most of these roosts chances of disturbance should be very low. A small proportion of the population likely uses caves based on winter records from the CDOW Mine database and known hibernacula in the Eastern U.S. As a result, a small number of individuals could be disturbed during the winter and put at risk due to energy constraints. In addition, spread of White-nose fungus from infected to uninfected caves by humans has become a major concern (Frick et al 2010) with records of Eptesicus being affected by the fungus (Castle & Cryan 2010).
