Search CO Bat Matrix > Big brown bat (Eptesicus fuscus) Threat Matrix
Species Profile
Despite these bats using caves widely throughout the eastern US (Agosta 2002), in CO evidence leans more towards use of buildings, snags, and rock crevices for both maternity roosts and hibernacula (Everette et al. 2001; Fitzgerald et al. 1994; Siemers 2002; Neubaum et al. 2006, 2007). However, limited surveys of caves in Colorado have been conducted and Big brown bats probably use these structures on occassion. Poorly designed gates could inhibit use of otherwise suitable habitat for this bat.
