A contaminated water source could potentially impact large numbers of bats in an urban area. For example, it is suspected that the majority of bats roosting in Fort Collins (which includes EPFU) utilize the Poudre River regularly (pers comm). Therefore, contamination of the river could have a widespread impact. Additionally, chemical control is often used in exclusion attempts (Kunz and Reynolds 2003) and human made roosts may be contaminated with pesticides and wood preservatives (Voute, 1980-1981).
