Species Profile
This species has the potential to be impacted by development at the urban/rural interface if this brings more activity to mines or caves used as large maternity roosts or hibernacula. They are easily disturbed and leave caves and mines where human harrasment occurs, even if unintentional. Spread of urban areas often leads to mine closures for public safety and mines are the primary habitat for this species. Several maternity roosts of this species are in areas that are threatened by urban sprawl (e.g. C. t. pallescens; Piaggio and Perkins 2005).
